ShiftOS — Bringing Windows-Grade Window Management to macOS
A native macOS utility suite that fixes window snapping, clipboard history, window switching, and Finder friction in one app — built because the fixes power users actually want don't exist as separate apps worth installing five of.
macOS is powerful but deliberately incomplete in a few specific, well-known ways: no built-in Windows-style Snap zones, no native clipboard history, a window switcher that only cycles by app instead of by window. Most fixes for this are five separate menu-bar utilities fighting each other for permissions and screen space.
ShiftOS is built as one native app instead: a window snap engine with 14 zones and a visual layout editor, a 200-item clipboard history with smart dedup and per-app privacy exclusions, a five-mode window switcher built on ScreenCaptureKit for live thumbnails, and a Finder extension that adds cut/paste-style file moves and Git status directly into the right-click menu.
Everything is SwiftUI and AppKit — no Electron, no cross-platform shim — because the entire premise is deep macOS system integration: global shortcuts, Finder Sync extensions, ScreenCaptureKit, and per-app permission handling that a wrapped web view cannot do.
